April 8, 2014: VCC is excited to announce that Mr. Gregory Conley of The Heartland Institute, and President of the American Vaping Association (www.vaping.info), will be the welcome speaker for VCCNE2014. In addition, Mr. Conley, an extremely knowledgeable and eloquent speaker, will lead legislative advocacy town hall style sessions (schedule TBD) for those interested in attending while at the convention–you will NOT want to miss these! Thank you to Mr. Conley; VCC looks forward to your participation.
BIO: Gregory Conley joined the Heartland Institute in February of 2014 as a research fellow in the areas of tobacco and nicotine policy and regulation. Prior to joining Heartland, Conley served as the volunteer legislative director for the Consumer Advocates for Smoke-free Alternatives Association (CASAA), the largest consumer group representing the interests of users of smoke-free tobacco and nicotine products. There, he led grassroots efforts aimed at defeating legislation that aimed to make low-risk alternatives to smoking like electronic cigarettes and smokeless tobacco less accessible or affordable. His interest in the field of tobacco harm reduction (THR) began after he quit smoking with an e-cigarette in August 2010. Conley has given testimony before the U.S. Food & Drug Administration, as well as committees in numerous state legislatures. His work has appeared in several outlets, including the New York Post, National Review Online, Reason Online, and Convenience Store Decisions. Conley earned a Juris Doctor and Masters in Business Administration from Rutgers University. In addition to his work with Heartland, Conley is an attorney and an independent legislative consultant and policy analyst with a specialization in health, tax and tobacco issues.

One of the main goals of every Vaping Convention Circuit (VCC) event is to have an advocacy aspect. VCCNE2014 will unveil a new concept to step this idea up a notch: THR Advocacy Row. An entire row of booths at VCC events dedicated to tobacco harm reduction advocacy. VCC has offered a gratis booth to VISTA Truth Inc. (www.vistatruth.org), the American Vaping Association (AVA – www.vaping.info), CASAA (www.casaa.org), and The Vaping Militia (www.thevapingmilitia.org), the American E-Liquid Manufacturing Standards Association (AEMSA – www.aemsa.org), and the Smoke-Free Alternatives Trade Association (SFATA – www.sfata.org). These organizations will be in attendance; there is no way we will win the fight for our rights without cooperation across the board.
Visit their booths at VCCNE2014, speak to their representatives, learn what they do for our industry and what you can do to help. United we stand; divided we fall.
(Note: None of the organizations listed promote or support VCC or VCC events. They are attending as special guests strictly to inform attendees about THR advocacy)
Hotel Information: The Sheraton Springfield, Massachusetts Monarch Place Hotel has agreed to a rate of just $109.00/night (first night due at booking, unless you place a credit card on file); VCC has blocked off rooms for Fri 6/27, Sat 6/28 & Sun 6/29 with complimentary WIFI and reduced parking fees (it’s only a few blocks from the MassMutual Center). Click the hotel name (linked to the VCC block) above, or call 1-800-426-9004 and use code VCCNE2014 when making the reservation.
May 14, 2014: I spoke with the representative from the Sheraton, the hotel where we have blocked off rooms for VCCNE2014 (NOT WHERE THE EVENT IS BEING HELD) to verify which type of smoke detectors they have in their guest rooms. After consulting with their engineering department, she was advised they are photostatic smoke detectors, which means they will be set off if there is too much vapor (or anything else obstructing the built in sensors). Vaping is allowed in the rooms and hotel, but too many people congregating in one guest room, all vaping at the same time, MAY CAUSE THE ALARMS TO BE SET OFF. Even though the event is NOT being held at the hotel, VCC has secured a larger conference room for after hours in the hotel (adjoining the hotel bar) for people to congregate if they desire. Please let others know that will be attending…I do not want this to be a surprise at the time of the event. I do not know the policy of other hotels in the area, you will have to check with them when booking. -Kevin Skipper

**NOTICE** Any person and/or company selling items (or giving away samples) who is not a paid vendor with a booth, or an employee thereof, in compliance with vendor agreements and VCC rules will be escorted out of the event by security. Not only is it unfair to paying vendors, but people that didn’t sign vendor booth agreements are exposing VCC and the convention center to liability.
**VENDORS** VCCNE2014 will have a BEST BOOTH contest…criteria will be 1) the display itself (creativity, look, etc.), 2) quality of vape gear and/or e-liquid selection offered, and 3) customer service. The Grand Prize winner (to be announced Sunday June 29, 2014 in the afternoon/evening) will have their booth fee (or booth fee equivalent for one booth space if a sponsor) refunded!! Bring your ‘A game’, let’s see some awesome displays!
